1998 Airmail Cover/Insert fr Numan, Nigeria to Berks, UK (Royal Mail Damage Bag)

Description

1998 airmail cover from Numan, Nigeria to Berks, England.  The contents are a simplified, English bible study course booklet, which was studied and filled out by the Nigerian student.  It was being returned to England for review and issuance of a certificate.  The cover has no clear cancellation date, but it can be seen that it was postmarked "Numan."  The booklet appears to have been dated August 1998, so mailing presumably occurred around that time.  It is franked with one 5N and one 30N Nigerian stamps.  However, what makes the piece interesting is that it was damaged in the mail upon arrival in the United Kingdom.  Although the booklet is intact, the envelope is quite torn.  Consequently, the cover and its contents were placed in a Royal Mail plastic bag
from the Customer Service Center in London, which apologizes for the error and offers further assistance.
It is a Very Fine item ready to enhance any collection of British or Nigerian postal history or damaged mail.
