Description
You are bidding on a Marx International Airport #4806, sold by Montgomery Ward on December 26, 1962 and picked up at the Evanston, Illinois catalog store. According to the receipt, this set was a replacement item, as whatever the customer ordered was sold out. The catalog number on the receipt differs from the catalog number of the "International Jet Airport" on page 336 of the 1962 Montgomery Ward Christmas catalog. However, from the photo in the catalog, the item I have looks very similar to the one sold in the catalog. The big difference is that in the catalog the item is called "International Jet Airport" and sold for .88. The box, (see photo) says "International Airport" and the receipt, including trx and transportation totals, .31.As far as I can tell, the only thing missing is the large Astrojet. The instructions are pretty spare and there was no master list of what it was supposed to have, so I can't be positive.
The metal pieces were never assembled. Two of the pieces are in the original packing paper. There are a few small scrapes on the edge of one of the smaller metal pieces. I can only guess it was from sliding free in the box. While the colors are bright, there is a fine dust on some of the pieces. I didn't want to do something wrong, so I've left it alone.
The plastic pieces are in their original paper bags. They are in beautiful condition. I haven't counted everything, but there are 25 figures, 1 of which is a luggage cart. Smaller pieces that came attached to sprues are still attached to sprues. I removed the pieces from the bags for photographing (duh!) and put them back into the bag they came from.
In addition to the metal and plastic pieces there is an instruction sheet, the receipt for the order, a sheet of decals and a 1997 Playset Collector magazine with an article about Marx airports. Mites have had their way with most of the paper and the decal sheet has some yellowing. The magazine is in excellent condition.
From a smoke free home. I'm happy to answer any questions. Thanks so much for looking.
